to manage your team to victory - either play as GM and make roster moves and follow your team as you sim through the season or play each game out and make the managerial moves. OOTP lets you choose how deep you want to get involved.
Check out the manual: OOTP Manual Don't worry about reading it all - it's huge. Just get enough digested to get started and play around a bit.

fpc833, bp_'s advice is good but if you are truly dumbfounded then your best bet may be to go to the main web site (www.ootpbaseball.net) and follow the Gameshark and Gamespy game review links. When you are done with those, return to www.ootpbaseball.net and click "The Game." Follow the links "What is it?" and "Features" for a good overview. Look at the "Videos & Tutorials." Then download the manual if you want to skim through that for more details and ideas about the game. Since you are not new to baseball, you will at that point have a good idea of what OOTPB is all about and how it is played.
