Question Benching Players

How can I bench players prior to the start of an individual game I will manage?

You probably figured this one out by now, but just in case.

Even if you have delegated your lineups settings to your AI manager, you can go to the Lineup & Starting Pitcher tab on the pre-game screen and make any changes that you want for that game only. Benching people long-term, however, requires you to take back control of lineups and make the changes yourself on the team's Lineups & Depth Charts screen.

I had that figured out but by "benching" I don't mean just removing from the lineup - I mean giving a day off - making the player or pitcher inelliegible for that game, either for use by me of the AI. I still haven't found how to do that. . .

I getcha now. Well, aside from playing out the game and managing it yourself, I suppose you could take the player off the depth chart* or the pitching chart* for just that game or the number of games the player is to be benched. Also, just to be sure, you can right-click on a player, choose Set Game Strategy, and click the "Never use as a pinch hitter when tired" box or enter a pitch count of one for "Pitch Count Limit (0= no limit)." That should do the trick, but you have to remember to undo these settings if you ever want your AI manager to play that player again.

* Edit - Thought of something. Make sure you have backup players at all positions on both charts other than the ones that you are benching, because your AI manager will play the bench jockeys if given no other choice in order to continue the game. So, if you want to rest a 2B but nobody else is on the depth chart for that position besides the starting 2B and AI needs a substitute (say, due to an injury), AI will call on your resting 2B for sure.

Ah, okay. That should do it, thanx.
