Pitcher's velocity

This is something I've always wondered in 6.5, and now in 2007.

Obviously a pitcher's ratings in Stuff, Control, and Movement reflect on his capabilities. However, what about the velocity? Does this have any effect? If so, how much?

I'm not positive on this, but I believe velocity will have a small effect on strikeouts. I believe I also read somewhere that a pitcher with higher velocity will have a slightly higher chance to meet their potential than a pitcher with a lower velocity.

Apparently velocity has no or almost no effect, from some tests redsoxford ran- the results are in a thread from a couple of weeks back. Players with good Stuff are usually also created to have better velocity, so it can give you some indication of a pitcher's likely strikeout rate, however. That is, it can tell you something about the quality of the pitcher, but if you edit his velocity to be something different, it won't change his results. The original thread with redsoxford's results is here:

ihatenames raises a good point- I haven't seen any info about velocity and pitcher development, and it would be interesting to confirm if there is any correlation there
