How do I scout a country??
I was told that at game creation I needed to check the "Manage and Maintain Hidden Players". The default is having it checked and I did not change it.
When I go to my scouts, scouting another country is not an option. It lets me scout player, team, organization, league(not foreign) and a bunch of quick scouts. I just started a game and the date is Jan 1. Is scouting another country not an option due to the date? Will it become available later??? |

If you have hidden players enabled, you can scout a country by going to 'Explore World' in the Manager menu. This opens a list of all countries in the world. Choose one, and if hidden players are enabled, there should be a button, bottom right of the nation screen, that says 'Scout Nation'. The button won't be there if hidden players are disabled.
You can also do this from the scout tasklist, but only as an 'Idle' task. It's awkward from the tasklist anyway, because the nation dropdown menu is too long. Be aware of two things when scouting internationally: -it can take quite a while to get any results, sometimes more than a year; -if you stick with it, and scout nations with good baseball quality, after a few years you can end up with a lot of good prospects- too many, probably. It's definitely fun to do, but it seems more realistic to do it in moderation. AI teams will only rarely sign international players, so it can give you a big advantage. |

One other thing- you can't scout the nation your league is based in (USA, I guess).
If you haven't scouted nations before, I'd recommed giving it a try, and after four or five seasons, see what you think. There have been a few discussions in the forums about international scouting, and everyone seems to have a different idea about how to use it; some avoid it altogether, some set restrictions on how they use it, some love it and send all their scouts off to the best countries as soon as they start a new league. If eventually you want ideas for restrictions, here are some I've used and like: -Sometimes I sign and release 90% (the first 9 out of 10, so it's random) of the players I find, so other teams can sign them; -Sometimes I only sign players 18 years old and under; -Sometimes I only scout countries with Average or worse baseball programs (you'll really never find anyone good in countries like Mauritius or Vanuatu, but in countries with Poor or Fair ratings, you might find one decent prospect every 50 years or so, and a lot of junk. There are a few good prospects in Average countries). |
