Player retirement criteria?
In a historical league, with yearly recalculation based on real stats, what determines whn a player retires? Is it based on age and luck, or does the real retirement year affect simulated league retirement?

The real retirement year should have very little effect. The primary determinant should be whether or not any clubs are still interested in him. (If the reason he retired in real life was a sudden diminution of skills, then that may be why nobody wants him anymore.)
The secondary determinant is whether the player wishes to keep playing. If you 'unretire' him and he quickly (within a year) 're-retires', then it's what he wants, and you should just close your eyes and let him go.

To clarify: is allowing a player to retire and then selecting to unretire him the only way to keep a player around? Are there any other elements of his edit page that will make a player "change his mind" after the intent to retire notification is sent?
I've raised his morale but won't know the effect on retirement until the end of my season. How about changing the age for a couple years and then changing it back when you are ready for retirement..do either of these options have effect? . |
