Questions

Okay, I've only had the game about a week now, and I'm really enjoying it. Just a couple of questions.

When I sign someone from the amateur draft, he is not assigned to either my MLB team, nor any team in the farm system. He just kind of goes into limbo. There are times I lose track of these people, and they don't play for an entire season. Is there an easy way to locate these people and assign them to the proper team?

I am still earning to navigate through all the screens. Is there a way to look up the league final standings from the previous season? I often try to trade for other teams draft picks, so I need to review the final standings of the previous year, often months after the end of that season.

Thanks for your help.

1) That's strange (to me - let's see if someone else has a possible answer to why that is happening - maybe a problem with your minor league team affiliations?). In my experience, the game assigns draftees to your minor leagues as it sees fit, usually but not necessarily the lowest level. I have also read that if there is a problem with roster limitations on draft day, draftees may end up in DFA.

Anyway, to suggest an answer, I would go to the team's Transactions Log right after the draft (see below - maybe advance one day to be sure assignments have been done) and click each draftee listed to see what team, if any, that he's been assigned to. If there is a problem, then right-click the name, choose Player Profile, Editor tab (must be commissioner) and assign him to the correct team (there was a problem last year that if you did this, the player was not necessarily added to the team roster; he was in the organization but not on any team; you had to then go to the parent roster, choose Listed Players: Entire Organization, find the player, right-click and assign him to the proper team; I think this has been fixed in 2007).

2) Whew. Now for an easy question. Go to your league's history (click FBL or whatever your league's abbreviation is and choose History). You will see your league's abbreviation on the far right; if you have subleagues, then their abbreviations will appear on the far left and far right. Click either of these and you will find what you are looking for. Look below for an example.

Re 1), the game should normally assign your draftees to an appropriate minor league team, as '98 Yankees describes. If this is not happening for you, I wonder if there is a simpler solution than '98's above- could you not go to the Transactions Log, right-click on each draftee, and assign them directly to a minor league team? If that doesn't work, the Editor solution '98 Yanks suggests certainly will.

And, first thing I'd check would be to see if they're dfa- go to your transactions screen, check 'Waivers and Designated for Assignment' and see if your draftees are listed. If they're not there, they're in limbo somewhere, but you should still be able to assign them to the minors by right-clicking, I think... In any case, it would be useful to know whether they go to dfa, in order to work out exactly what's going on, and how you might change your setup to avoid this issue in future. My first guess, but it's just a guess, it that you may have imposed roster limits on your minors which would be exceeded if the draftees were assigned there, so you may want to relax your minor league roster limits, or even set to no roster limits in the minors; these options are in the Game Setup, in the Game menu.

As Injury stated, if they're being DFA, then you likely have a limit on all your rosters. If you go to league setup, select your lowest level minor league level, and make sure the roster size is "Unlimited".

Regardless, I always check my transactions tab regularly, and especially after any kind of transactions and make sure I haven't missed pulling anyone off the DL and that I have no one DFA. I've missed messages on pretty good players being eligible to come off the DL for weeks. How embarassing would that be for a GM?! lol You'd think the players would leave me a nasty message or send some hate mail or something.

Unless you have your amateur draft at an odd time of year, last year's order of finish won't affect next year's (this year's) order of draft. The order or draft is normally based upon the standings as of the morning of the draft.

Curtis- that's not the case. If you have a draft in June, say, the draft order will be based on the previous year's standings. The only exception is for an expansion team (a team which would not have been in the league the previous season); in that case, the expansion team's record (winning PCT, really) on draft day is 'inserted' into the previous season's standings to determine when the expansion team will draft.

It may be convenient, if you use the rule 5 draft at its normal December time, to note the order of picks then; it will be the same order in the amateur draft next June- with adjustments for traded picks, and for FA compensation if that's turned on.

Thank you for that correction, injury log. I've never made it as far as the second season's amateur draft, and the first season's works as I described it. I learned something today!

And thanks, Curtis, for patching a couple of holes in some of my answers elsewhere. That reliver thing was hilarious, by the way.
