Various Questions
Not really "new to the game" per se
but I sadly haven't played since OOTP 6.5 shipped, so I have a few questions about the current version.a.) The new defensive system is brilliant, but I'm wondering how well it works in conjunction with the player progression algorithms. Do players typically work their way Left-->Right on the defensive spectrum? b.) Era adjustments - are era settings (I'm thinking specifically of league totals, and not strategy settings) similar to the older engine? I.e. if I want my league to generate stats in a certain range, can I take the league totals from the game and bust out some spreadsheet love to tweak what I put back into the engine, or (preferably) have things improved and can the engine handle this recalculation automagically? c.) How good is the reference portion of the game now? I'm not expecting catobase or anything, but is it pretty nice? Are advanced value-metrics calculated at all? I'm sitting here, credit card in hand, preparing to buy, but before I do I just want to make sure I can play the game the way I like to play.

don't know the answers to the questions, but have you tried the demo, it will at least pass the time while you wait for someone to answer your questions and get that credit card out of your hand so you don't spend money on other stuff.

I think I downloaded the demo a few months ago and for some reason it wouldn't let me run it without buying it. I'll have to check again, thanks.

Quote:
Defensive Development For b), you can certainly modify whatever league totals you like. I'll let someone else answer c)... In any event, you should certainly be able to play the demo without buying. You'll get 7 months of 'game time', so you won't be able to continue past August 1st without buying the game, but it's fully functional otherwise. Before I bought, I set up a short season starting in February to see how some of the offseason worked. |

Almost as good as Catobase, but not quite. Good enough that I'm more than happy to use the in-game feature rather than playing an older version of the game just to use Cato.

Fiddling with the demo, it's pretty awesome as I'm sure everyone else here knows already. I feel a bit like an old dog trying to learn new tricks, but the interface is pretty intuitive once you've fiddled with it a bit.
I have another question. What's the best way to set things up if you only want to play as a GM? From what I can tell, I just have to go to the manager options and set everything I want to have my assistants/managers/coaches handle? If I have my managers handling depth charts and lineups, do I need to babysit them or will they do their jobs without interference?

Well, after fiddling with the demo for a couple days, I'm sold. License purchased.
Thanks for the answers, guys. I'm looking forward to destroying my free time for the foreseeable future.
