new to importing!

I've obviously been playing OOTP for years but I basically only ever play one way - get an MLB database and then create a new fictional universe going forward from whatever the current year is, eventually having the imported RL players replaced by generated players.

Now that my main savegame has about 15 years of history I'd like to try something different. Importing historical rookies from the generations prior to 2006. First, is it possible? The game world will be 2022 does it matter if I want to import 1974's rookie class? Is there an easy resource for ratings adjustments I should make when bringing classic rookies to the "modern era?" And I'm assuming that the actual how-to for the import is covered in the manual?

Thanks in advance for the help!

PC, no responses, eh? Let me bump it up for you, with a couple of suggestions.

First, you know how to do this? See the screen print below; that can be found on the free agents page if you are the commissioner.

Second, the only problem that I can see with the dates is that birth years may appear unrealistic; I was recently discussing this with someone else after noticing that Lou Gehrig, for example, was "born" in 1985 in order to be the 23 years of age that he was when I imported the 1927 Yankees into a game dated 2009.

Third, I am unable to answer your question about ratings adjustments, alas.

Last, here are two threads that you may be interested in:

Thank you as always '98 Yanks, I appreciate it. I am finally breaking away from my singular comfort zone and realizing all the extra stuff
OOTP has to offer and it's like I've just got the game again!

Does this have to be done the first day of the preseason?

Here's another noobish question - where in the league history can you find who won past All Star games? I can't seem to find it for the life of me! Thanks again!

No problem, glad to give you some help at least.

I feel the same way about historical play and breaking out of my own mold, so to speak.

I think you can import historical players at any time; they go into your free agent pool and are available to be picked up immediately (by any GM) as far as I can tell.

I have never seen any record of All Star Game results in league history. Perhaps somebody else will come along with a way, but I think it's due to what LGO says about the All Star Game in his post (#6) in this related thread:

All star game in schedule editor

If I can't find any mention of it, I am going to post your question as a suggestion on the board for that purpose, just in case; to include All Star Game results in league history.

The All Star Game isn't recorded, nor are ASG stats AFAIK. Both are things that would be nice to have.

That's given me an idea. I'm writing a player vs team mod to record these details over time, so I could probably add ASG in as an extra split.

Ack... well I have the Lehman database, comma-delimited, and pointed OOTP to the master.csv file and tried to import historical free agents from 1923. When I leave the "enter historical player ID" field blank the import fails. Do I have to enter the individual player ID for each player I want to import (and I suppose I'd get that from the file itself in Excel)? This is looking more and more like a tomorrow project!

Yes.

Have fun!

What about changing the years in the database to be updated to your league's years? I have no idea if that'll do it, but worth a shot I guess.

Yikes, thanks!

I'll try it... I've been stuck on my work laptop for the last several weeks so I haven't been able to do anything OOTP-wise lately but will let you know how it goes.... eventually!
