Does OOTP come with historical database already installed?

Hello, just diving in to the world of OOTP. Today is "install day"; the learning curve is steep.

I didn't know if this question belonged here or in the bugs forum. Every time I try to load a "true" historical league (say, MLB in 1983), I choose the year and I get this message:

"Error!

The loading of the historical league failed. Please make sure that the year is between 1901 and 2006, and the path of the database is correct."

Two questions:

1. Does OOTP come with a historical records base preinstalled, or is that a mod that has to be added "by hand"?

2. I've checked to see if the OOTP folder has the historical base hidden somewhere. However, all I get when looking is the statement "Select Master.CSV file from database folder" and I can't find that anywhere in the OOTP folder.

Am I missing something obvious? Forgive me if this isn't the right forum.

The game does not come with a historical database as part of the program, only Baseball Mogul is licensed to do that.

You can, however, easily download it yourself at no cost:

http://baseball1.com/statistics/lahman54_csv.zip

Unzip that to wherever you want (say, c:\stats) and then when the game asks for the location of Master.CSV, navigate to the folder you unzipped the aforementioned file to.

Many thanks. I was trying to delete this post when I found out how to do this but unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how and put you to this unnecessary trouble of replying.

It just goes to show: "when in doubt, read the manual". (slinks away, embarrassed....)

Also, there are other historical databases in the Mods forum. They all do things a little differently, but you'll still get your run through baseball history. Start with the lahman and if you want to change things up in a while, check out the others.

Pet- no need to be embarrassed- there will probably be several people who read this thread with the same question you had, and eriq's answer will be very helpful to them. It's a complex game, and many people starting out have the same questions; these answers are usually useful to many, even if they don't participate in the thread.

RTM is always good advice. OOTP 2007 has the best manual of any game on the planet.

Make sure you pipe up and tell us how things go.

FWIW PureSim comes with the database also. Its just not very editable. Id much rather not have the game come with the DB if it cant be edited

Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you.

An update. Downloaded the Lahman data base. I wanted to download the "total history" in OOTP, but the game would crash, so I got the game to run with not loading "total history".

I'm playing in 1983, and it seems to be going well so far. Changing the uniforms to match the right colors is easy. Now to figure out FaceGen, mod patches for the right uniforms, building my own uniforms....building this game ain't easy, but it's damn fascinating and I'm having a lot of fun.

Make sure to check out the Mods forum. Some of that work on unis and logos may have already been done.

An older machine might have trouble loading the total history. Mine will load the total history without crashing 90% of the time but I have to let it run over most of a night.
