One league question
I want to start a 12 team fictional league. No divisions. I want the team with the best record at the end of the season to be the leagues champion. No wildcard, no playoffs. Can this be done? When I try this, the wildcard standings are always present. Even worse, I had a tie for second place in a league and the the two teams played an extra game to decide the wildcard winner. This all happens with playoffs disabled. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks

Lou, I know you asked this question on the discussions board and received no reply. That may mean it's just programmed that way and nobody has any better answer than that or it may mean that too few people who ever designed such a league are around to answer your question one way or the other.
Tell you what; I will look at this tonight with a test league built along these lines and see if I get the same results. I'll post here again with what I saw and at least you will have confirmation whether it's a problem unique to you or not. |

Well, here's the story.
First, with the alignment that you described and I replicated, you get wildcard standings whether you want them or not (see first screen print). Second, the "playoffs" occur the day after the season ends; Round 1 is over and the Winner is declared (see second screen print). I cannot tell for sure, obviously, but this looks like the program is following the usual programmed routine of playoffs, only in this case no games are played and the winner is decided immediately. In other words, it's not a bug but something that was not addressed when designing the game so that a one-subleague, one-division league would not require wildcard standings or a final playoffs screen, I think. Next, I simmed several years until I encountered the situation that you described; that is, the wildcard tie that necessitates a tiebreaker game that is meaningless (see third and fourth screen prints). That game is unavoidable, unfortunately, as I found out. I had the bright idea of going immediately to the schedule editor (fifth screen print) to delete it; I could do that, but the program just rescheduled it for the next day. I tried several times with the same result. The program would not conclude the season without playing this game out. I can see that this might bother you, as the stats from that 163rd game count. So, I suggest that you post in the Suggestions Forum; feel free to use these screen prints if you wish. You could try Tech Support as well, but I am not sure if they would view this as a bug rather than a design flaw to be fixed in a future version. |

Thanks. I just wanted to know if I was doing something wrong. I will make a post in the suggestions forum. Thanks for taking the time to deal with a problem that is probably only a problem for me. It is appreciated.
On a side note, or a Twilight Zone note, I live in Shreveport. Spooky. |
