Player popularity

I'm in an online league and 1 player was proposed to me in trade whose local popularity is 'very popular' and nationally is 'fair'. The question is, "Does the local popularity stay the same if I acquire the player in trade?"

This is what my trading partner wrote: " Local popularity is the effect on the team the player plays for (whoever that might be). National popularity is the effect on road team fans, which affects their gate revenue and your own revenue for road games."

The manual doesn't really say anything like the above quote, so maybe that's a feature from an older version of the game?

Popularity was part of OOTP 6.5, was dropped for OOTP 2006, and was reintroduced for OOTP 2007.

That quote from your trading partner is the best statement that I could find in these forums about the difference between local and national popularity. These threads also show that popularity varies due to a number of factors including the time spent with one team:

Popularity swings like a little girl in a playground

Local Popularity

Player popularity

Player popularity

After going through all that, however, I am afraid my answer to your question "Does the local popularity stay the same if I acquire the player in trade?" would be "Maybe."

Thanks, for that great information. How come when I do a search I don't get such good hits?

Just for the record, when I received the player, he did retain his 'local popularity'.

Use "Advanced Search" if you are not doing so already. Much depends on the search words or phrases that you use, however.

That's what some of the posters on those threads said, but others seemed to indicate time with teams is important. There's also a question whether national popularity boosts local when a player moves.
