Managing a Short Season A League

Since you don't trade, or call up or down when first starting out managing a Short Season A League, what would be the main aspects of adjusting lineups, and strategy settings.

Also, what's the best way to get a feel for the relation of player and team performances. Should I sim a few seasons monitoring stats, or are there any other ways of looking at player performance related to team performance.

The main thing is this, the toughest challenge for me, being new to the game, is I need to know what are the actual things I can do to improve my players and teams results.

Also, am I biting off too much, starting with minimal control of a minor league. Should I start off in commisioner mode instead?

I like microing the play by play, but right now I'm mainly interested in learning about roster/lineup and strategy management.

Thanks,

emcgman

I'm not trying to scare you off from doing it, but when I tried to manage minor leagues in the game, the computer GM would constantly issue call-ups and send-downs, making it insanely hard to play and get a feel for who any of my guys were. Maybe I did something wrong.

Anyway, what I did to get a feel for the game was create a small league with Majors and one level of minors. If you wanted to, you could GM the organization, and play-by-play your minor league team.

I know that wasn't too much help. Peace.

You did nothing wrong - that's exactly what the game is supposed to do. Minor leagues are complete slaves to the big league clubs. You get no say in who is on your team or when.

It's not the choice I'd suggest for a first time player.

Well, here's my update.

After 2 seasons of finishing just under .500, I received a promotion!

Finishing under .500 might not sound that great, but your best guys are always getting called up, so winning is a real challenge.

Now I manage a `single A' team; the `Henderson Moundbuilders.' (Parent team LA Dodgers!) My team is leading an 11 game division 4-0! My guys are still subject to getting called up or down at any time by the GM. I've been managing every game with this team, as opposed to the short season team, I would set lineups/strategy and then sim.

The way I have the game settings is Historical rosters with fictional player creation to fill in the minors. I am allowing the fictional players to advance to the majors. It will be cool to see how many fictional stars emerge alongside the real players.

The play options in this game are awesome.

I really appreciate everyones input and comments.
