Expansion?

Hei!

Im thinking of expansion (play the real 2007 MLB now), but can't find much about it in the manual.

How does it work?

Can I give a command during the off-season (how?) that I want to expand the leagues? Or should I have done while setting up the game?

Im at 2nd September 2007 now ...

You can expand at any time during the offseason, I think. If you go to Game Setup, in the long list of functions one is to Expand League (or something similar, don't have the game open). If you want, you can hold an expansion draft; each team can protect a certain number of players, and then the expansion teams can draft from the remaining unprotected players. It's normally best to expand after free agents file; otherwise you'll have a lot of upcoming free agents in the expansion draft pool, and it's easy to draft these guys without noticing that they'll become free agents a week later.

May I come back to you with some more detailed questions after my season is done?

I tried some things with expansion in a "dead" game, but of course wanna play it safe not to destroy my Brewers dynasty ...

I should be here. Others will be willing to help as well. Try it out in a test league to see how it works- it's all quite easy after you've done it once.

Expansion went well, but the next teams have empty roster at AA, A and R level. Are those rosters filled automatically when they have their first game, or do I have to do sth?

Major League and AAA roster are filled with expansion draft players and free agents. I'm not in spring training two weeks before opening day.

Thanks!

you'll have to sign players for those levels. If you are in commissioner mode you can autofill the minors.

You could also turn on ghost players in the minors so that your rosters fill in slowly over time so you don't have to create a bunch of players out of thin air.

No, Im not coaching an expansion team - the AI does.

Will he fill the minors automatically? Or do I have to do it as commi?
How to do that?

sorry, I assumed you were controlling the expansion team. The AI should sign players from the free agent pool to fill out the minor league rosters if full minors is enabled. If you are playing with ghost players, the AI will most likely only assign a handful of players to those levels after free agency and the first year player draft.

Ok, I don't play with ghost players, but still the expansion team minors have no players. Im on 2nd April now, Minor Leagues start on 10th April.

Another expansion, another question.

Regarding the protection list: Do players on the DL count as protected?
I have Ryan Braun on the 60 Day DL and he is out for 7 months, of course I would protect him, but if he's auto protected on the DL I'd rather protect someone else.

Newbie question:

With expansion, you guy's mean creating whole new (fantasy) franchises right?

He is not auto protected, you would have to protect him.

Depends on how you are playing, if your playing a historical league, you can have the game create the new teams that come into the league on the same year as they come it, if your game is fictional or moving forward from the 2008 rosters then yes they are new (fantasy) Franchises.

Yes, in my game its like this:

Started with normal MLB. Than expanded it with two new franchises. The Buffalo Blizzards and the Vancouver Marmots. Now after two years its time for two more
