Newb:(OOTL) Out Of The Loop

O.K. so i'm your basic text sim junkie. Been playing Bowl Bound, FOF and FOF:TCY mostly and decided to change it up with OOTP. I must say after the previous games I was to say the least a little intimidated by OOTP. But i am in love. I think this may be the best game ever created, the depth, the control, and the layout are awesome.

Well, as you can imagine I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IM DOING. I'm not really a baseball fan so im no guru when i comes the strategy, but I am a big sports fan so it's not all totally new to me. I struggled through my fist season and probably dropped the ball on alot of things. Is there a site or thread that could shed some light on what im supposed to do and when to do it. Maybe a Gm tutorial or something of the like.

The other games were set-up in stages and kind of idiot proof, so the freedom has me a bit lost. I'm grasping it slowly but i feel like im driving the Pittsbugh Pirates into the ground.

Welcome to OOTP and the forums, bdc.

Having played them both, I can tell you that if you mastered FOF, you will get the hang of OOTPB. OOTPB is somewhat higher on the learning curve than FOF but FOF is no pushover and you have to be really into text sims to enjoy it. So, you will like OOTPB, I think.

To get started, I would recommend going to this web page:

Out of the Park Baseball - Baseball Management Game for PC and Mac

You will see links there for the Tutorials and Manual. The manual is first-rate and up-to-date*. The tutorials are very good but I am hoping that they will be updated and expanded as time goes on.

For modifications (way down the line for you), go to this web site:

Main

Finally, use these forums. Search and search! Everything that you are going to ask has been asked before, I will bet. But that does not mean you cannot ask it again, of course.

(*Unfortunately, the link to it is not working right now. Moderator alert!)

One other thing: pressing F1 while on most screens will bring up the in-game help system.
