Crash...

I've downloaded the OOTP8 Demo. I started a fictional league and played one game. After looking at the game log I went to continue and the game had to close. Is the game prone to unexpected crashes (exp: High Heat 2001) or is this an unusual glich? I didn't do any saves up to that point so it's gonzo. I've started a historical replay and gone a half month without any problem but would be using the game for fictional leagues and don't want to have to save after each game as this would be really be time consuming.
This is just a general question as I am interested in purchasing OOTP9 and don't want HH2001 fustration. My virus protection did update at the time and maybe that caused it??
One more question: I'm havin' a tough time navigating my way around the game. When I go to "help" I'm used to an index search box to find things quickly. This doesn't seem to be available. Do I have to read the manual (that doesn't have an index either)?
