Unhappy Starters disproportionately rocked in inning 1?

Playing the game since 2002 (though not as much as most who post here), I've noticed through all the versions that starters (even good ones) sometimes get pounded in inning 1, probably more than they should, to a degree that can't be explained away just because the starter iss facing the top of the order. It happens more to my starters than the computer's starters, I think. I think that the starters typically revert to their "normal" selves after they recover.

BTW, I almost always actually play the games out, rather than simming them, if that matters.

Has anybody else had that experience? Can I do anything to help my pitcher? It happens often enough that I don't want to bring in a reliever this early for a relatively common occurrence. When I see this starting to happen, I like to call for a conference at the mound; sometimes it seems to help, sometimes it doesn't. Can you give me any other advice?
