Fisk is taking me for a ride....

I've started a historical season (74 Red Sox) and in negotiating with Fisk he's requesting a 3 year $15M contract. Yaz is the highest paid player on my team ($2M/year) and I can't see signing Fisk for that much since its way above the market and will likely piss of Yaz. Is this just some outrageous ploy or will the demand stay this high for the rest of the season and eventually force my hand. I guess I could pay him this much, but he's not the only one asking for alot of money. And he keeps insulting me by saying that he can't feed his family unless he gets this contract. I've offered him just short of Yaz money per season which I consider reasonable. Not sure what to do, I can't let him walk (otherwise how will he hit a bottom of the 12th HR to win game six of the '75 WS). The contact amounts just seem way outside the historical norms of the times. What do I do?

Do you have historical finances turned on?

Apparently not. Where do I find this function. Also too late to switch to this mode in the season I've started?

Thanks for the response?

Go to the Game dropdown menu, then Game Setup. League Setup > Options > Import adjusted financial settings after each year.

I wouldn't recommend turning it on in the middle of the season or even right afterwards. Switch it over on the February date when the game switches the financial year over.

Isn't this fairly simliar to what happened in real life, maybe the White Sox will sign him if you let him go!

On a fairly random note, I am a big Alexei Zhitnik fan. I played in an Xbox Live league for a few seasons and had the Sabres and Zhitnik was always a monster for me.

Not really. The Red Sox simply forgot to send him an offer in time to prevent him from becoming a free agent. He had been battling with them over contracts, but would have stayed if they had actually, you know, offered him one. They just didn't get it submitted in time.

Hey Kelric - interestingly enough "import adjusted financial settings after each year" is checked off. 1974 is my start year for this league - are the contact issues a function of the fact that this is my first year, and will reset to more realistic levels the following year? Also why are there free agents in 1974 - I thought free agency didn't start until 1976?

You turned free agency on (or the default is for it to be on). The game doesn't know when FA started, it relies on you to do that for it.

There may simply be an excess of cash in the league with teams under budgets, so players will realize that and ask for more money than they may have gotten in real life. OOTP isn't perfect.
