Do Defensive Ratings Always Reflect Reality?

I've just started a game of the 2008 season. I noticed that Gary Matthews Jr. of the LA Angels has a defensive rating of 54 in CF, 57 in RF, and 2 in LF. Huh? How can a guy who is in the mid-50s in CF and RF be such a defensive liability in LF? It doesn't make sense. It's certainly counter-intuitive.

Can this be right? Looks like a mistake to me. Was the LF rating generated by the game itself or was it derrived from the Lahman database? Can I edit the ratings if I think they're wrong?

All rating are generated by game. If player saw little time in past years in some positions he recieve bad rating. A-rod recive 2(from 20) at SS in my universe (Jeter 14) in my opiniont this is wrong.
You can edit ratings if you act as Commissioner of the league. You can find appropriate checkbox in options. Or create new fictional manager and set him a commissioners' "rights". And switch to him when you need to correct some "mistakes" in ratings.
