Player Development and Aging

Since I started playing I've had nothing but problems with getting any accurate aging throughout the league. With the default, I was rarely seeing anyone play beyond age 33 without a great decrease in output and essentially being confined to the bench and getting just about 100 abs a season until they retired around age 36-37. This led to drastic lowering of HOF standards as no one in the league was able to put up anywhere near 3000 hits,500 HR's, or 250 wins. It also becomes a big issue because it's never worth signing anyone to long term contracts since players hit such a steep decline at about age 30-31. So if you figure they've gotten through their arbitration years around age 28-29, you can pretty much guarantee they'll be worthless in just a year or two so there's no good in keeping them.

I posted about this a while back and was told to adjust the player aging and development ratings and I did. However, I was unclear exactly whether to increase the default or decrease the default to get my players not to age as fast.

It made sense to me that I should decrease the default from 1.000 since the aging should thus be slower. I first changed it to .7, then .6, and finally .4. However, having played a good 20 seasons since I did that I still see absolutely no difference in the aging of players. If anything, they may be aging faster so I'm beginning to worry that I may have had it backward. Before I do another long-term experiment where I increase the default I was hoping someone could help me out with this.

I've read posts in the general discussion forum where people complain about players playing too long into their 40's and I've never seen anyone complain about players aging too quickly. At this point, I wish I had that problem. Personally, I've never seen a guy playing at 40, or even 38 I don't think.

I'd really appreciate any advice on this as this is really taking away from the enjoyment of this otherwise great game for me. What do other people use for these modifiers?

Here's some recent discussion in the main board. As you read through some of this, you may zero in on some key terms and use the search function to further investigate the issue as your interests deem appropriate.
