Should i buy this game?

Hey guys,

I was actually playing Eastside hockey manager 2007 up till now and i was looking for a newer hockey sim, but they don't exist.....that when i came across this game. Unfortuantly I know very little about baseball in general but am interested in learning.

Do you think this game might be a little too confusing for me?

I am loving the sound of some of the features in this game (if only this company made a hockey game) but it doesn't seem that they have the licences of the professional baseball leagues...so is there a mod that basically unfakes everything? (teams and players?)
If so where can i find it?

Thanks for your help

Real players and statistics are now in the game by default and there are plenty of mods that will give you real teams, logos and pictures. Those types of mods are simply download, unzip, stick into the proper folder, start your game and they are ready to go. (Try the Mod Forum for finding mods...)

This game, once you figure out how to change options around, can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be.

As for whether that means you should buy it or not, I'll leave that up to you.

Yes, you should buy this game, Dave, IF you are into baseball simulation (player selection and development, team management, game strategy) rather than an arcade style graphic action game. You have to decide that for yourself, of course.

A demo would help, but they have not released one yet. When they do, it will be available on the main OOTP web page. For now, you might to go to the OOTP download file archive and get the OOTP 8 demo; look for a file called ootp8demosetup.exe.

OOTP 9 (and OOTP 8) comes with an MLB roster as of Spring Training this year (last year). Players only, though, but a good job of getting the MLB structure down (leagues, team names, affiliations) and including not only major league players but most minor leaguers as well (Disclaimer: The roster set has been criticized for accuracy in a number of areas, however. Yet, you must remember that this is a simulation game).

Therefore, you have to supply the team colors, logos, and uniforms which OOTP has no rights to use. However, the mod community here is very strong. For an example, see what is available on this web site. To make things easier, OOTP 9 has a new module that can download files from this web site directly into the game.

Again, you have to be heavily into baseball to enjoy this game. There is a steep learning curve and much maintenance in terms of setup and options. If you love baseball stats, this game will be heaven. On the other hand, if you do not now, you may come to love baseball and its stats by playing OOTP for a while. As I said, your best bet is to try the demo.

This is great game, and you may come to know and love the great game of baseball through this simulation baseball game. But, d/l the OOTP 2008 demo first, and find out for yourself.

Oh! and give it a chance. First time I've played the game, it wasn't quite what I had expected, but have come to know and love this game. There is none better on the market. In fact, none that even comes close to a baseball sim like this one. It continually receives 9/10 on most gaming web sites. I think IGN gave it 9.5 last time I checked them out.

Anyways, d/l the demo and enjoy!

I think you should buy the game. Its the best baseball sim out there. Some advice before you play, don't get discouraged by the game, give it a fair chance before you judge.

thanks for the replys. I did buy this game Im not a big baseball fan, and i have no idea what pretty much all of the stats mean lol but i loved sims games like Eastside Hockey Manager 07 so im giving this a shot because it looks great once i learn everything.

Im wondering does the person/company who makes this game ever consider making a hockey game, perhaps in the future? When i play this game all i think of if how amazing it would be if it was hockey. I know that all of you guys love baseball and its probably your favourite sport but im all about hockey

Anyways, i have alot of learning to do and i hope that the tutorials, screens, and the manual can teach me everything i need to know, especially what each stat means lol

thanks again!

Hockey is my sport to, but since SI stopped making their hockey manager I kind of stopped playing it and have focused on baseball. As far has Markus(OOTP developer) making a hockey game, i'm going with a no for now. He still is working on making this OOTP bug free. I would love for an ootp hockey style game.

Some advice for the game since your not big on baseball. I say stay away from the real rosters and create your own league. Start small to learn everything slowly and don't forget if you need help just post on the boards.

Good luck

Yup, There's tons of baseball expertise-type knowledge on these forums. Even I learn a thing or tow sometimes....(switching a pitcher to outfield back to pitcher to pick up a blown save, and a save in the same game? That completely blew my mind lol )

So far im just playing in commish mode and seeing how everything plays out, switching from team to team. Ive must of spent about 15plus hours and still don't know what im doing.....maybe for ootp10 i will know half of the things i should lol

Dave, welcome aboard. I did the exact opposite a few years ago and bought EHM I knew very little about hockey stats, but loved the game so much and began to learn a lot more about hockey through the forums and game itself. Hopefully the same will happen here for you. There is a great community that is willing to help. Please don't feel silly asking question about what certain stats are or anything like that. I have been a baseball fan for my entire life and there are still lots of things that I learn thanks to OOTP and the community. Hope you enjoy.
