Question about Free Agency

I am playing my first offseason, the year is 1967 headed into 1968. When the season ended there were 88 players who filed for Free Agency. I have played through until February 1st, and there are now 77 players still unsigned. Some big names like Willie Mays, Willie McCovey and Gaylord Perry of the Giants are all still unsigned, as well as a handful of 5 star and 4 star players. Salaries are correct I think as it shows a superstar player average salary is about 1.1 million, a star is at about $899,000, good player $524,000, above average 262,000, average 110,000 and down from there. Is it just a slow off-season for free agency or do I have a setting someplace that is messing this up? Thanks!

Check out every team and their finances. They may not have enough money to sign anyone.

You don't say when in the off season currently are in game terms. Many free agents, especially the top ones seem not to sign until the preseason in February and sometimes even all the way to spring training in March.

At least this has been my experience. Even if you make an offer and they favor yours they seem to "wait for other offers".

Thanks for the replies, and yes, it turns out I was a little hasty as when the season started, Jim Bunning and Willie Mays were the only two unsigned start quality players, and Mays is out until May with an injury. Sorry, next time I will be a little more patient before asking questions!

In 1967-1968 both Mays and Bunning were 36-37, coming off some really good years with average at best seasons remaining in their careers. They are probably asking for pretty big contracts and I'm thinking maybe the AI has just decided they aren't really worth it at this point in their careers.
