Question on Bench Coaches

Looking at the online manual, it says bench coach's coach ratings affect play & player development, but also that they're responsible for helping the manager handle his responsibilities. So obviously high ratings in teaching pitching, hitting, & fielding are good, but should I also put stock into how well they handle players, vets, & rookies?

This is all personal preference, in my opinion. Even the actual effect the bench coach has on the process is subject to debate. My own take on your question is that those are qualities more important to the manager than the bench coach, who typically is a former manager or a manager in waiting.

In my schema, if the bench coach were being groomed for the manager's position, I'd deem them important. Obviously, having good ratings is a plus and can't hurt you. Will it hurt you not to have them in the bench coach capacity? If it does, I think that effect would be minimal, if at all, as his primary interactions, as I conceive them, are with the manager and only possibily as a sounding board in the dugout.

I agree with you. I only use a scouting coach now and don't see much difference without the other coaches. Actually, I don't see a whole lot from my scout either but if you want some kind of idea about a player that you might want to obtain, having the scout is somewhat valuable.

If I am wrong about the use of the other coaches, then I hope someone else with a little more experience with the sim will reply to this thread.
