Major League contracts

Ok, can someone tell me exactly when a player gets a major league contract?

Can i test minor league players in spring training without them getting a major league contract?

Do september call ups get a major league contract? Because i had a player who played some games at the end of the season, and now he's back in the minors, he has a minor league contract again...

Thanks!

There are no stupid questions for us newbies. I have the some of the same questions, so I was hoping one of the experienced players would have answered this by now. I'll tell you what I think.

The manual says a player gets a major league contract when placed on the 25-man (i.e. active) roster. It sounds like that applies to the expanded roster in September, but not to Spring Training. You can have minor league players on your 40-man roster without giving them a major league contract, and anybody on the 40-man roster can be added to the Spring Training roster without accruing major league experience. That tells me you can add minor league players to the 40-man roster, call them up for Spring Training and still send them back down to the minors without giving them a major league contract or having to waive them. Can anybody confirm this for the newbies?
