Recapping it
Just wanted to mention I like how you can write a recap at the end of every game. If anything, it's fun trying to be a sportswriter for a newspaper. Here's my latest game:
April 5th, 1990 (Philadelphia- AP) PHILLIES HOLD BACK CUBS Ken Howell pitched seven strong innings Thursday as the Phillies defeated the Cubs 5-1 at Veterans Stadium. Howell also had a good day at the plate, going 1 for 1 with 2 RBI and a run scored helping him secure his first win of the season. Shortstop Rod Booker also swung the bat well and collected 3 of the Phillie's 13 hits on the day. Mike Harkey takes the loss for the Cubs who will leave Philadelphia having dropped the season's opening 3-game series. Phillie newcomer Gary Gaetti saw his average plummet after going 0 for 5 with 7 men left on base. Kind of dry, but fun nonetheless. |

OK, lets see how long I can keep this up. Here's the next game:
Phillies Lose, 7-3 (Philadelphia, PA) The Montreal Expos opened a 3-game stand with a victory over the Phillies Friday night in front of 8275 in attendance at Veterans Stadium. Leading the Montreal attack were 4 RBI off the bat of Delino DeShields, who went 3 for 5 with a triple and a home run off starter Dennis Cook. Chris Bosio pitched eight strong innings for the Expos to get the win. Despite the loss and 11 men left on base, the Phillie offense continued its early season hit parade, highlighted by Von Hayes' 2-run home run in the 5th. Speedy Montreal base running got the best of the Philadelphia defense however, inducing 2 errors on the night. The loss evens up the Phillies season record at 2-2. |

2-3, .400, 2.0 games back
April 7th, 1990 (Philadelphia, PA)
Expos Speed Past Phillies The Phillies dropped their second straight game against the visting Montreal Expos last night with a 3-1 loss before a raw crowd of 9,000 at Veterans Stadium. Southpaw Brian Barnes pitched eight innings while striking out five giving the Expos their third win in five games this year. The loss puts the Phillies one game under .500 at 2-3. Ricky Jordan's 4th inning RBI double proved to be the only run the Phillies could muster from their collection of ten hits on the night. Phillies veteran and team leader Von Hayes exited the game in the 4th inning after injuring himself making a spectacular catch against the wall robbing the Expos of extra bases. His condition has yet to be disclosed. The Phillies finish the three-game stand against the Expos tomorrow night before heading to Chicago for a quick three day road trip. |

Phillies Lose 3rd Straight The visiting Montreal Expos outpitched and outlasted the Phillies Saturday sweeping the three-game series. The game was virtually a pitcher's duel until the 8th inning when both teams put up six runs in their respective half inning. Tim Wallach drove in three hits for the Expos whild John Kruk went 3 for 4 for the Phillies. The Phils mounted a 9th inning comeback but ultimately came up short on the day. Cubs Maul Phillies 10-5 The season is getting off to a dismal start for the Phillies who now have dropped four straight games. The Cubs handed the Phillies their 5th loss of the season in a 10-5 drubbing which was capped off by an eight-run inning off starter Bruce Ruffin. Ruffin (0-1) had successfully retired the first nine batters in order, but was unceremoniously knocked out in the 5th. Phillie bats were stymied by Cub pitcher Mike Bielecki (1-0) who went seven innings. The Phillie offense managed to score five runs off the Chicago bullpen, however the runs were not enough to make a dent in the Cubs lead. Last edited by ccaranna; 10-27-2008 at 12:13 AM. |

Cubs Win Pitcher's Duel The Cubs came out on top of a 2-1 pitcher's duel with the Phillies Wednesday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Shawn Boskie (1-1) pitched eight innings and allowing just one run on four hits while striking out nine. His performance outdid lefty Dennis Cook (0-1) who struck out five on the day. The two RBI off the bat of third baseman Jack Howell were all the Cubs needed to nip the Phillies in the closely contested game. The loss drops the Phillie's season record to 3-6. They have a day off before opening a three game homestand Friday night agains the St. Louis Cardinals. Last edited by ccaranna; 10-27-2008 at 12:14 AM. |
