major leaguers will not learn positions?
when I first started playing I just did a game as a coach of a minor league team and often would put a guy in a new postion and every game or 2 they would gain a point in that position for the first few starts.
around a week ago I started with 1910 rosters and rules, but player development and historical rookies are off. I also have another league for minors but it is not connected to the major league. I was looking to learn more of the GM role without all the minor leaguers. the thing is one of my players was a second basmen with good hitting and fielding stats but no skill at a position. I am a month into the season and the guy played in spring training and all but 3 or 4 games in the regular season at 2nd base, but has not gained 1 point in second base. Is this a problem? or is the scout just not doing his job? the guy is not making many errors or anything, just does not seem to be learning. thanks for any help

It has nothing to do with a position change. He could play for years and never gain if the minimum levels are not there to begin with. Someone can correct me where I misspoke. Ray |

that might be the reason his range and error are 25 and he has a 17 arm (with 1-100)
oddlly his stats are good considering, he has a .954 fielding percentage and a 5.41 range. not great but good enough for a good hitter in a no DH world

It's going to take a guy probably close to a whole season to learn to play 2B at the major-league level. |

Didn't see the detail in your original post, that you were a month into the season.
I'd give him two or three months. Are you checking his ratings in the editor, and looking at the absolute values, or just checking his externally-displayed rating? It's going to take two-to-three months for an official rating to appear. |

Is he older?
I know in v2007, I've played several years with Johnny Temple at 2B with no rating while in his 30s and got similar numbers as you've shown. He was an All-Star in his heyday, but by then the game gave him no defensive rating. If he's playing OK, then I wouldn't sweat it too much. If he starts kicking around 3 balls a week, then start worrying.

I am having the same problem...my guys just aren't accruing any experience at positions I am playing them at.
Recalc is off, so there isn't anything going on there. Any help would be much appreciated |
