Can it be this easy?
Hi, I downloaded the Demo today to test out the highly recommended game by numerous websites. I wanted to test the way the program worked compared to my expectations. So I started a new game, as a manager in the minors, and simulated the entire season with the coach assisted lineups and no change to strategy... I took first place in the season. Is this something that is common to the solo game? A cakewalk to victory? I would like to try a new game like this out, but am disappointed with the ease of winning.
I don't mean this post to be a knock to this game, I just would like some feedback on what can be done to raise the difficulty, I don't like to lose, but 0 effort and winning isn't fun either. |

But someone has to win, right? You could have maybe simmed that season not touching a thing and that team still could have won. The real test is can you do it repeatedly over successive seasons? Yes, the game can be too easy for some people, especially if you're taking advantage of the AI in which case you can institute house rules to make it harder, but even if you didn't, some team still has to win and maybe that team just happened to be the best and would have won more times than any other if that season had been replayed over and over.
To raise the difficulty, some may come by and post theirs, but you could do a search for "house rules". One I like to do is I don't accept a trade unless something very similar has been offered. You could play with scouts to increase the fog of war (you won't know the exact ratings). You could make the ratings less precise like 1-10 instead of 1-100 or whatever. There are lots of ways.

Also, I tend to suggest running the game as a big league manager than in the minors. Lots of issues in the minors.

I suggest playing for several seasons, and playing out your games. It's really not possible to judge on the basis of simming one single season.

Thanks
Thank you for the feedback. This was very helpful. As a full-time quality analyst I had no choice by to test the "norm" while allotted just a 10 day demo. I have found that my once love for solo play video games has dissappeared and multiplayer is king to me.
One last question, I saw the long list of people hosting leagues online, it would be great if the developers would take on a standard website for multiplayer, but in lieu of that, any recommendation for online leagues if I decide to purchase? |

I play several solo leagues. The one online league I'm a member of is the Jamaica League. They are a nice group of guys. The website is functional and pleasing to the eye, and Satchel, the commissioner, is top flight.
There are many, many online leagues out there, and I'm sure others would be very happy to make recommendations. I suggest also that you check out the mods forum. There are several bajillion jerseys and logos out there for the taking should you decide to play a historical or fictional solo league. And the dynasty section of the forum contains a great many interesting stories that will give you an idea of how other OOTP players are enjoying this game. The possibilities with this game are truly endless.

The way that I see it is the reason why it looked so easy was because the team that you had chosen won. You didn't really do anything. You simulated the whole season, you didn't play the games, you didn't make any roster moves, you didn't make any strategy changes. So, it really wasn't you who won.
I'm not trying to mock you. I am just trying to point out that your test really didn't accurately reflect what you are capable of doing as a manager and whether it is too easy to win with you as a manager. |
