Assuming one to one hundred on the scale, his arm is acceptable for a centerfielder but I think his 62 range will hurt you.
The 85 in RF is his experience level, which seems pretty good. I'm surprised he isn't in LF with that 60 arm, though. The 30 experience level simply means he hasn't played much there. He'll miss more balls in CF than he will if he stays in RF. And that doesn't count the range coming into effect.

so the "rating at.." applies to experience? how does that relate to the range and error numbers or are those two-range and error- the more important numbers here?

The 'rating at' applies to experience, yes. In this situation, since he won't make many errors, I would say his range and then his position 'rating at' are the important things here. At 27, he should improve his rating in centerfield a bit, but he probably won't ever be that good at it. Expect a sure-handed guy with limited range who may take some strange routes on fly balls, essentially.

Here is what the manual says about position ratings:

So I think that this rating reflects experience, but is not solely experience. What I don't understand is how a player (in a fictional non-recalc world) loses a position rating. Here's an example: I have a fictional player who used to have a RF rating. He has played RF for years, so his experience should be very high. (It's an online league so I can't look at the editor). His Outfield Range/Error/Arm ratings are 2/4/2 (all ratings are 1-10 scale). And he has no RF position rating. I would have thought he'd at least get a 1, according to quote #2. Maybe if the scale was 1-100, I'd see a rating and it's just being rounded down to 0? Jean Last edited by jduteau; 06-01-2009 at 03:34 PM. |
