Managing a game

Hi again,

When I'm managing my team in a game, and I'm pitching, I have the option to
1) pitch or
2) pitch around

What is the practical difference b/w the two? I tried using pitch around for a few games, and it seems slightly increase my strike outs, does not seem to increase my hit batsman or walks, doesn't seem to alter the outcome much.

What does "send forced" mean?

Finally, when do you guys use "guard lines" - I can't remember the right time to use this strategy. Thanks

Ichiro51,

Pitch around is be carefull pitching, should add more walks, and less big hits.

Send when forced I'm not sure. Maybe runner goes even when he doesnt have to, no runner behind him.

You guard the lines late in games to stop extra base hits down each line. More chance to give up a single, less doubles & triples.

Pitch around also increases the chance of wild pitches and passed balls. For instance, I wouldn't use it much with runners on third base.

AFAIK that means the runner will try to steal no matter what. However, I've never figured out a good tactical reason to use it.

I'll do it sometimes if I'm convinced the runner can take the base. Weak pitcher when it comes to holding runners with a poor throwing catcher behind the plate...
