Moving players between rosters

I'm having trouble understanding how best to move players between rosters - if I have a player on the 25 man roster and he needs to go on the DL, for example, I can move someone from the 40 man roster up to the 25 man roster temporarily. But then when the injured player is ready to come back, I can't seem to easily get rid of the replacement player - if I try to move him back to the 40 man roster I am told he's already on it (since his name is on both rosters at that point.) How do I handle this situation?

Just move the player back to the AAA roster (or AA, or wherever he was) when your first player is ready to come off the DL. That's if you want to keep the replacement on the 40-man (which it sounds like you do).

No need to move him to the 40-man because, like you said, he's already there.

You can move the replacement off the 25-man roster one of two ways - right-click his name and select "Demote to AAA" (or AA, etc.) from the roster screen, or drag-and-drop his name from the Major League roster to the appropriate minor league roster from the transactions tab.

Hope this helps.

Okay, I will try that - I know in the past I have had some issues where the player refuses to be demoted, but most of the time it works - I guess I was confused in thinking that the 40 man roster meant all the players were in the majors, just not in the active roster (like how football is set up) but actually those extra 15 guys are still in the minors?

Yes, that's right. They're in the minors, or on the 15-day DL (but not the 60-day DL). 60-day DL players don't take up a 40-man roster spot.

If a player refuses to be demoted, it's because they have the necessary experience to be able to refuse a demotion. You can tell who those people are because they'll have that "hurricane symbol" by their name (I can't type it on my keyboard). If they can't be demoted without their approval, you have to pick someone else or release them.
