Career Ending Injuries and Contracts
In my fictional league I have a superstar DH that I just awarded a four year, $100 million dollar contract. He got injured in the preseason in the second year of his contract and was out for half a season. A few weeks before he was scheduled to come back, he suffered a setback and the injury was deemed career ending.
Am I going to be on the hook for the rest of his mega contract? I hope not, because the real irony is that I was planning on trying to move him after the season. |

Phft, my team probably has insurance. Sima Svabic and his career ending hamstring strain are going to be just fine. Out of curiosity, will I ever be able to do anything like make him a minor league hitting coach?

I thought you had to wait for the player to retire at seasons end. If you release the player you are still on the hook for his salary. Has this been changed for OOTPX?

When you release a guy under contract, you get a prompt which tells you that you will be on the hook for X $$. When you release a guy who suffered a career-ending injury, it merely asks if you are sure you want to release him. No penalty is noted. Then when I go to sign an FA or make a trade, my payroll is improved by the amt. of the released player's salary.
So from this I've concluded that the released guy walks away with $0 from my pocket. |
