Setting Up a Franchise League, what am I doing wrong?

Trust me I've searched and read this forum up and down along with the online manual but I still can't seem to comprehend what exactly I'm looking for when it comes to picking and choosing what teams will be in "my" created league....any advice as to what I'm looking for would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for a few things but the easiest would be having a 30 team league where I can pick 'n choose the teams(I've figured out how to download the correct seasons,but have yet to figure out how I can blend in for instance the 61 yankees with the 98 cardinals for instance. I've read that you simply add and delete the teams once this is done,but I don't see that option anywhere.

I'm also looking to set up a all*time franchise league(sort of like the rob neyer book) with each teams best players but if I can't figure out the above there's no hope for me to figure out the all time stuff...

help!
