insanely offensive Rookie Leagues...

Ok, I am by far not new to baseball, and certainly not new to to the OOTP franchise (been playing this great product now for a good 8 solid years now.)

I have played out many minor league games, but never as low as the rookie league, and I find the Rookie League (GCL) to be kinda....curios....

I started a new 2009 MLB default season, starting on the Mets GCL Rookie League. I am playing out the games, and am 6 games into the season. In the first game, I won 10-6, which I didn't really think much about. My second game I blew out the Red Sox 28-2, with tons of walks. In fact, the starting pitcher on the Sox walked 9 batter by the 3rd! By the end of the game, I threw that out to being just a curiosity of a game.

Game three I lost 4-3, so no big problem.

In game 4, was the beginning of a series against the GCL-Phillies. I took that game 14-11. The 5th game I took 20-16. Both games with FAR, FAR too many walks, on both sides. But at the same time, both teams were using the bottom of their rotations, and this is only the first week. So I went onto game 6, where my number 1 starter was due up to pitch, and same with the Phils number 1.

After giving up 6 runs in 5 innings in game 1, I figured that was just the pitcher shaking off rust. The Phils number 1 gave up 3 runs in 6.1 in his first game. So I expected this game to be a bit....lower scoring. But instead, I won that game a whopping 33-12! My starter stayed in for 7 innings, and gave up 6 runs.

Ok, so I was able to score 13 runs in the top of the 8th, and came away with a 33-12 vicotry. So I decided to go back and chack all the other teams' scores in each of their games. I was gonna post all the scores, but that would take far too much time. Instead, I calculated that there was an average of 7.77 runs scored per game per TEAM. Or over 15 runs per game!

And it isn't even consistant, either. For instance, a typical team, the Twins, would win 6-4, 20-4, then lose 2-3 in the first series against the Astros. Then win 12-7, 20-2, and 3-2 in the second series against the Reds.

Is this normal for Rookie pro ball, or am I just going nuts?

oh, and if you put it in OTD, well it just might get hijacked. It's just something you assume and accept. The gay marriage thread is currently about religion, gravity / theories on the creation of the universe, empiricism, and my little pony. - Prodigal Son

I just ran into this and...
I had the box checked to automatically control in-game engine to match league totals (only recommended for minors) after unchecking it the scores settled down to a more realistic/streamline? level immediately

So far, I would have to say that is an affirmative. Played two games out, and I lost the first one 7-5, and took the second game 4-3. There were two games in which a single team scored 10 runs.

In the past two days, the runs scored per team, per game is just 4.43, compared to the 7.77 per team game. I'll let ya know if it is a true success after I get through the rotation a thrid time.
