Need advice on setting up a certain league

I want to do a fictional league of about 10 teams that has real players from the 2009 season with an inaugural draft. I know how to this, and I know how I want to set it up.

I'm going to have one minor league affiliate for each team.

First question, should the minor league affiliate be AAA? Or would there be a reason for it to be AA or A?

Now, I'm going to do an inaugural draft with every MLB player. Keep in mind that I'll over have 10 teams in the league and ONE minor league affiliate per team.

Is there any way I can easily deal with the over abundance of free agents that will be left after the draft? And how should I set up the First Year Players draft afterward so that I don't have a TON of players?

Since the organizations are so small, I'm thinking of only doing 10 rounds or so, so would you suggest creating players for 15 rounds?

To answer your 2nd question: you can always go into Commish mode, go to the Free Agents tab, and click on the "delete all free agents" button.

Now, to have SOME free agents out there (but only x amount of players instead the overabundance of players post-draft), you should click on "create fictional player" and create 50-100 FA's. Just do random position and the next option that's below "established" (I forget what it is). Make sure you DO NOT have the eligible for next draft option on, or they'll just be thrown into the draft pool

Hmmm... that's an interesting idea. So, basically, it would be if they don't get drafted in the inaugural draft, they no longer exist?

That might be the way to do it.

I guess I could go into Commish Mode and delete, say, every other free agent afterward... it would be fairly random. It would take a while to do, but that seems like an option that would certainly work OK.

Thanks.

Any other advice?

Yep.

This is where a mass select option would become REALLY useful...

But anyways, I'd actually sort by attributes and retire/delete the players that have no chance of ever making the majors (1/1/1/1/1 players for example). But it's very tedious, which is why I suggested the method I did. All it would take is a few mouse clicks.

Another tip, as soon as you're ready to start your league, or just as you do, BACK IT UP! Either save it as a quickstart, template, or use the in-game backup tool. That way if you forget to do something in your league creation or something's not right with the settings, or screw something up with the FA adjustments, your entire body of work isn't lost and you'd have to start over.
