Is This Even Possible?

Thought I'd let some of the experts dissuade me of this notion before I waste a huge amount of time trying to set it up.

My vision is:

Historical - maybe 1950's or 60's. All the Majors and their affiliated minor league teams.

Added to that - my Ohio Valley independent minor league with AAA through R level teams and feeders from small town high schools and colleges. (I do realize that I have to at least 'classify' it as Majors in setup to be able to manage up and down the ladder)

I would like to role play as manager of one of the Indy organizations.

The big picture goal for the league would be to become a valuable talent resource to the majors .

The immediate goals of the Indy league teams would be twofold.

1. Run a profitable small town team.

2. Develop young players to the level where they can be sent to the majors via cash sales or maybe even trades. I envision players wanting a shot in the OV League because the Majors didn't pick em up and this could be a good path to get there. The cash deals would pay for part of the team expenses.

Restraints would be mostly on talent. I don't want to have guys with big current abilities available to me (those would bypass OV for the big boys). I would like players ranging from the 'never will be' to the 'superstar potential but doesn't have it yet level' to come up through the feeders though.

Do ya'll know of any reasons that this would not be doable?

I can just imagine myself pouring over maps and what not creating the perect storm, only to finally start the game and go, DOH!

I'm willing to use Comish mode to set things (cash, etc) up to start with.

Thanks for any info!

I believe it's doable, but a very large project to start off on if you are new to the game....

You will undoubtedly suffer many false starts when you realize something is not working and may get frustrated at the game.....

Let me try and tackle some of these. First off, if you want accurate minors (like team names and everything), I highly suggest going the 60's route. The 50's minor leagues was a jumbled mess. Second, one of the things i see wrong with your vision is that independent minor leagues usually don't have affiliated leagues lower than them because independent minors usually are considered lower than the majors. I suggest making your league an independent AA league. That way, you'll get those guys who just cant make it and the ones who are borderline at best. You'll also have the veterans who still want to play but no one wants them. Finally, most of this is doable, but you need to tinker with finances in your leagues. Usually this means you cant have historically accurate finances, but if you set the finances to modern values, you'll never need to change them.

Thanks ya'll. I appreciate the info and have already learned some things that I would have done wrong without your inut. Perfect!

That sounds like a good plan goin AA. Puts one step between my team and the majors and should make things more realistic as to who I can draft or trade for and who is above my level.

As to the many false starts, yeah, i was rather afraid of that, but, just discussing and thinking about it has led to me another idea. When I do try this, I will start very small and not waste time on naming teams and locations and ballparks and what not. I'll just worry about the setup of the league and fast forward the sim to see how the rookie pool looks and things like that.

Then, after the bugs are worked out of the basic structure, I could make it into exactly what I would like to play.
