re: new fictitious league.

re: fictional leagues
ok, so there is all sorts of league templates, and historical, or alternate existing leagues. so... how can i create a fictional league, with an all-time draft of anyone and everyone ever, to 'compete' side by side and against each other in an ultimate league of forever?

How about this? Or check the mod forum for a randomized debut database.

Forever won't work, though.

i haven't had a chance to d/l the link/file info you sent but in the meantime, i should elaborate what i am trying to do. a couple employees and i used major league manager (circa 1989) to pick any player from that year's roster and 16 historic teams.

for example: (this is what i would like to have happen)

draft round 1: (simplified and names just what popped to mind) 1. babe ruth '27 2. nolan ryan '72 3. barry bonds '01 etc etc etc... until the lineups are filled.

then maybe have it end up being a keepers' league... about 2/3 of the team can stay on the roster but the others end up going back to a pool available (supplemental draft) and those who weren't selected before are still available for the vacated slots of the teams.

thanks for any advice or direction

Parts of that are possible. You can create the rosters yourself by importing players of a specific season (don't ask me how, I've never done it) and drafting them in an inaugural draft.

You can shut off injuries and talent change if you want to keep all of the players just as you imported them (though they will age, but you can always edit that if you want).

There isn't anything built in for keeper leagues and redrafts the way you are discussing it, but you can always manually edit what team a player plays for.

re:

ok i started a new fictional league and i have the teams saved in the game... i am actually using index cards on the side right now representing the 32 teams (set up like NFL standings) and the roster positions to be filled to handle the 'inaugural draft.' i will probably take a little while and thought to put all-time greats together in one league draft and have 2 extra teams to boot. the trick will be getting those versions of the players into the rosters in the game after i finish the rosters on paper.

when you said import the individual, was that a programming reference on the files themselves or a function using a tab/menu item available while in the game interface? i know you said 'don't ask me how but..' so i won't ask how but just a quick expanding on what you meant (like programming v. game function) with the import comment.

thanks again

In game, on the free agent screen, there is a Import Historical Player button that you can use to directly import a player from the built-in historical database. If you want the 1927 version of Babe Ruth, you can have him playing right alongside the 1926 and 1929 versions of Babe Ruth.

your local pain-in-the-ass here...

it gives an example of ruthba01 (assuming babe ruth but not very clear of what year nor what abbreviation another player could possibly be..). is there a special decoder ring or something to show what abbreviation is for each player?

thanks again!

No clue. Never tried it.

I'd suggest checking out the manual/historical forum/searching this forum for an answer.
