Expansion team - unrealistic expectations?

Here's a noob question, take it for what you will -

I started a MLB game and added two new teams for 2009, in Carolina (in Raleigh, NOT Charlotte) and Portland. I take over as manager for Carolina. It'll be a small-market team so I know it'll be a challenge, but I immediately get a message from my owner saying he expects at least a .500 record this year. Most real life expansion teams would be happy to escape their first year with 60 wins and their pride reasonably intact, while they work on building their system up.

Does OOTP make any allowances in expectations for expansion teams, or should I try to marry the owner's daughter to make my job more secure?

Or if you really just want the experience of guiding the expansion team for a few (or more) seasons you can go to Manager Options and check Manager Cannot Be Fired.

Yeah I know about that; that's my Plan B. But what I really want to know is if/how an owner's expectations are influenced by the players the team has to work with.
