Best way to get rid of High Salaries ???

Not being familiar with the finance end of baseball, I got a player, 1B Todd Helton of the Colorado Rockies that I have no use for.

We are in Season of 2009
2009 = 16,600,000
2010 = 16,600,000
2011 = 19,100,000
2012 = 23,000,000

He is hitting .150 in 23 games, 0.83 vs L & .179 vs R

No one wants him in trades due to his ridiculous salary. Do I just release him or waive him and suck up the salary ???

On a good note his replacement G.Atkins is hitting .296-11-29 in 47 games and is only costing me 7,050,000 for 2009.

Seems like he just hasn't had enough play time to get hit hits in, maybe play him more. I wouldn't release him though, I think you still have to pay that salary as it's a contract.

If you cut him you'll have to pay every last cent. I'd keep playing him for a while to see how he does (depending on his ratings).

Definitely don't cut him. I'd put him on the trade block to let teams know he's available, and then DFA+waiver him. That way at least he's on waivers and if someone wants to take on his contract they can (you can add him back to your roster when he clears).

You can also try trading him to one of the larger market teams and including some cash to make up the difference.

Hope that helps!

Yep, much as in real life, you're pretty much stuck with him. You pretty have to play him because he is making so much. You can't afford to release or bench a guy making $20 mil.

Personally, I would not put him on the trading block, or shop him much, or waive/DFA him because it will kill his morale. Basically, you just have to try to get him to hit somehow. Try moving around in the order or rest him some to try to get him hitting again.

If you cut him, I think you'll have to pay all the future years' salaries immediately. Maybe he'll retire, if you can figure out how to get him to retire I think you'll be off the hook.
