On the DL question

When you put a player on the DL you get the option of 15 or 60 days on the DL. My question is what do you do if they are out longer? Do you just leave them there or is there a way to renew their time on the DL? I have just been leaving them there and it seems to work, but I was just curious.

Leaving them there longer is fine. You just have to keep them there for a minimum of 15 or 60 days (depending on your choice).

Yeah, DL time is a minimum, not a maximum. And if you put them on the 60 they are also taken off your 40-man roster.
