SP or MR?

I played OOTP6 but am new to OOTP10 and am playing in a brand new online league. My question regards what to do with this 25 year old pitcher I have:

Player Report for #26 Miguel Fernández

He has 9 stamina and good ratings, so obviously I'd like him to start if possible. Currently the game recommends him for bullpen duty because he only has two pitches developed (a sinker and a changeup), and he has 96-98 MPH velocity and no fastball... When I toggled his position to SP he goes from a 3.5/4.5 MR to a 1.5/4.5 SP. The stuff potential rating and stuff current rating go down a bit but he maintains the 4.5 star potential.

So as it currently stands he is having pretty big control problems in the majors, so I'm thinking about sending him down to AAA. Should I send him down there and make him a starter and hope he develops a fastball or something? (FYI he has like 7 intelligence and 6 work ethic)

Also, how do I know when a pitcher develops a new pitch? Does it just magically show up one week?

You can put him back in the minors with the hope that he develops a new pitch, sometimes it happens and sometimes it don't. I think he would be best as a long reliever because he has mediocre control with his command. Looking at his age and his contract status I would assume his future is in the bullpen.

How did he get drafted twice in two days?

I've seen players like this used as starters, and they do just fine.

Sending him to AAA and putting him in the rotation sounds like a good plan. But keep in mind there's no guarantee he'll ever develope another pitch.

Yes. You don't get an email or any other 'ta-da' moment. You just have to keep an eye on it.

All right, thanks.

I sent him down to the minors and put him in the rotation. We'll see what happens.
