MLB Rules in Playoffs

It seems that in OOTPX I can move players in and out of my roster at will throughout the playoffs, such as when players come off the DL, or even make trades. I'm pretty sure this is not the case in MLB. Can anyone enlighten me about what is allowed concerning roster changes during the playoffs in MLB? Many thanks.

See this thread in the Talk Sports forum. I still have a bit more info to add to it, but haven't had the chance to write it up yet.

I've never tried a trade during the playoffs. But I do know for a fact that after the trade deadline all players involved in a trade must clear waivers in OOTPX. (As well as IRL)

I know you can make waiver claims in the playoffs and have them join your roster, even though IRL a player must be within the organization by September 1 to be playoff-eligible.

You mean by August 31. Players on the active roster and DL as of August 31st are eligible for the post-season. (Or, to put it another way, 5/6ths of the way through the regular season.)

I wasn't sure if it was Aug 31 or Sep 1, but it most definitely is the entire organization, not just the ML Active Roster.

Yeah playoff roster management is screwed up in the game. I don't understand why Markus has not fixed it. The last straw for me (solo league) was a few seasons ago Oakland picked up a player from Milwaukee on waivers during the playoffs and he went on to get the winning hit in the WS. Even worse Milwaukee made the playoffs and this player played for them in the first round. It really spoiled the season for me.

I can't stop call ups but I do stop waivers from working by setting them to 31 days (DFA too) during the playoffs. At least players don't switch teams.

Er, no, not exactly. Only players on the Active roster and DL as of August 31 are eligible for post-season play.

However, if one of those eligible players injured and unable to play in the post-season series, then he can be replaced by a player from anywhere within the organization provided that player was a member of the organization as of August 31. (If the replacement player was not on the 40-man roster, he'd have to be added to it in order to play in the post-season, which of course would necessitate removing another player from the 40-man.)

Infractions: 1/0 (0)
They can also "cheat" the system by placing a guy on the 60-day DL (see the dirty, cheating Angels and K-Rod in 2002.)

OK Thanks Le Grande Orange and others for the input. I had a couple starters coming off the DL during my playoff run but didn't want to add them as I wasn't sure it was kosher. Anyway, I took the championship, losing only two playoff games, so my healthy starters did the job. Thanks again.
