Playing in an online league

I am relatively new to OOTP (have OOTPX) and have spent my time building a Cincinnati Reds 'Dynasty' (solo) and creating a fictional league of 30 teams (plus 4 levels of minors) that all reside in the state of Indiana...I manage my hometown.

My question: I have been reading a lot on the forum about online league openings and was particularly interested in the WBH league as it sounded very competitive and has a unique format. What I don't understand I guess, is how an online league works. I read the rules and everything but still was left without an understanding of the how-to's of the online leagues or the time involved in maintaining a team in an online league. I have played fantasy baseball (deep keeper leagues) for many years (14+ years in my current 13 team NL only league with 41-man rosters). Can someone help me out with the general how-to's of the online leagues please? If you would prefer, just pm me and I could give you an e-mail address. I would rather have some knowledge of what I am doing prior to just jumping in one of these leagues.

Thank you.

The general gist of what happens in normal operation:

1) a commissioner uploads an updated file to a site
2) you download the update in OOTP
3) you fiddle with your organization for 1-100 hours; I generally spend about an hour on it, but you can spend as much time as you want
4) you upload your change via ftp in OOTP
5) at the determined sim time, the commish imports everyone's uploaded changes, then sims ahead x number of days (generally 7 days, but it varies).
6) lather rinse repeat back to step 1

Many leagues sim 7 days 2-4 times per real life week. But it varies from league to league. From there, it begins to become very league dependent on the rules. If interested, scan the online forum for openings or contact the commish of an interesting league and check out if there are any openings or a waiting list.

In general, it is much more challenging to face human competition in online leagues than the AI.

Hope that helps. Enjoy and I suggest giving one a try.

"send via ftp": I know this is going to be a stupid question...do I need special software for this? Or, How do I do that?

Thank you.

No, there are buttons in the game that you click to upload and download. OOTP takes care of the rest. No other software needed. It's very easy.
