Thoughts/suggestions on inaugural draft?

Hi,

I just installed OOTP10 and am looking to set up my first league. I like holding an inaugural draft whenever I play a baseball sim and am looking to do one with OOTP. I saw that you can set fixed budgets for the draft, and I was wondering if anyone has thoughts on whether to implement them. If you do suggest implementing them, how did you determine what amounts to use? I considered setting them to the 2009 team payroll amounts, but I wasn't sure how things would shake out after that. Will a team like the Padres, who had a really low 2009 payroll, up their spending in later years if they had the money, or does that beginning draft budget affect a team's overall financial state from that point forward?

I liked the idea of having each team start with the same draft budget, and then seeing where things went, but again wasn't sure how payrolls and finances in general might work over the years.

If anyone can relay their experiences, or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
Phil

Hey Mumbo,

I'm not sure I can recommend whether or not to use the budgets. But I tried a few times and then turned it off. With the budget on, it constrained my drafting, even though I typically draft relatively cheap (lots of youngsters). I also didn't notice that much difference in the drafting by the AI with it on. But to each his own, and I suggest trying with and without it to find your personal preference.

The way the teams markets and financials work is that after the draft finishes, the salaries are added up and the financials are generated based on the actual player salaries (rather than anything related to the budgets). The higher the player salaries, the bigger the market to support that expensive team and vice versa.
