Winter Meetings

I can't seem to find any information on winter meetings. When in single player mode, does the period for winter meetings have any effect on the game? Are other teams more likely to trade? What is the point within the game?

Basically, trading frequency increases somewhat during those meetings. So, you are more likely to receive trade proposals. Also, if you propose a trade where the AI wants to "think about it" you will get an answer more quickly -- the next day instead of two or three days later. Not a big deal, but an interesting distraction during the long off-season.
