How do you know if your prospect is ready?

Sorry for the double threads but I'm just wondering how do I know if my prospect is really ready? I'm trying to play it slow on Jesus Montero and he's hitting .200 in Tampa NY right now, but I'm just wondering how I should handle my pitcher prospects and also my star prospects for future reference as well. Thank you.

Slowly.

It's sometimes better to go too slow than too quickly. Performance drives development. If your star hitting prospect is only hitting .200, then that's usually not good. Although you don't want to drop him down a level, because that will upset him more. It's just like cooking - you want to make sure he's cooked through, but if you overcook, it can be just as bad.

So really, combination of
- stats
- ratings
- minor league system report saying he is
- your own gut
- necessity
