Do you keep track of ALL your minor league players?
Basically I'm asking what the topic says but more specifically... what if you notice a scrub minor league player (scrub as in very low ratings and very crappy stats) struggling in say... Single A. Would you demote him to lower A or short season A or would you just leave him there for roster spot purposes?

I do keep track of all my minor leaguers.
What to do with scrubs depends. I generally like to have them at levels where they'll succeed, helping the club win and the morale for players who care about winning. However, these are also the guys I love to promote or keep at too high of a level when I need to make sure each position has proper depth. In other words I'll often promote a scrub to fill in for an injury, as opposed to rushing a legitimate prospect. |

I let my minor league managers run the minors, but if I wanted to be more immersive as a GM, I'd definitely keep track of all minor league players.
Just like any other player, if they are struggling, I demote them. If they are succeeding, I promote them. Nobody is really a scrub until they flame out and can't perform at the next level. I do have some journeymen minor leaguers, like my 34-year old AAA third baseman. He hits well enough to keep at AAA but obviously not good enough to make it to the big club. He provides leadership. He can stay until a) he retires or b) I have too many infield prospects to afford the roster spot.

I just check their development. About once a month (in game) I will do a quick look to see if anyone is way over there heads. Although even that is mainly focused on decent prospects.
I am in a capped online league that includes minor league money in the cap. The option of keeping veterans would be a poor choice. I will also double check all potential ratings to see if I need to clean out the bottom, probably twice in season, once after the W.S. and once more after the draft. 20 rounds can land me some junk rookies. Just noticed it was you Lidbid. LP |
