Before I Purchase A Few Questions
Growing up, and into adulthood I played a lot of Strat-o-Matic. It's been years since I played.
Once I created a detailed Yankees league pitting the best players of each era on teams against each other. They played a 162 game season. In order to play the league I had to create my own cards for players whose cards I could not purchase or whom there were no cards. I'd love to find an easy way to recreate that league to see how accurate my cards were and to see if the results are similar. Here are my questions: 1. Would this game allow me to customize a ten team league made up entirely of players I create? For example, I wouldn't want 1925 Babe Ruth, I'd want Babe Ruth at his career Yankees average. 2. Would I be able to play the games in a Strat-o-Matic style (watch each play and determine what happens next)? 3. Once the league is created, would I also be able to have the computer simulate a season or two as a base-line? 4. How long does a typical game take to play? 5. How long does it take to custom design a player? 6. Is the game saved on-line so that if my compuuter crashes I don't lose all my work? Those are my questions to start. If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks. BG |

1-3) yes you can do all of those things. You can import Babe Ruth based on career stats or peak years or a specific year.
4) depends on the play-by-play speed (a setting you control), 10-30 mins is typical 5) a few minutes per player probably to custom design them. The game can import any MLB player, so if you want to use real players, this would be simpler. 6) no, you have to back the league up yourself. I suggest doing it frequently.

Thanks.
Just for clarification, I would be using my own stats to create the player. As such, I would eliminate certain outliers from players' careers - and give certain players (a few bonus points because they were personal favorites. Will the game allow me to modify any player to the exact level I wish? Secondly, in backing the game up, would a memory stick have enough memory to hold the game and all my game files. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP! |

If box scores and messages stack up they will take up memory and slow the game down. I zip up my league(quickest way to backup) and use an external hard drive.

I would think, say, an 8 GB flash drive or something would be more than enough for quite a while if there's nothing else on it. Full pictures, boxscores, and everything.
If you're going to go that way - use a stick solely dedicated to OOTP.

I would go ahead and see if you can backup to an external drive.
I think a flash drive would fill up too quickly. Unless you took almanacs and everything else out. But then what happens when you need to check a box score from 50 years ago? Maybe some people who have a league currently at 50+ years could give you an idea of how much space is being used by the league file. |

Of course, you don't have to save almanacs and box scores and game logs.

The problem with saving to an external source is the time. I prefer to zip the league file and then copy it. Much faster.

When I zip my files up and put them on an external source I have a file hosting site that I upload it to. This is overdoing it on the backup but when you invest so much of your time I feel it is worth it. YOu can do it this way if you do not have an external source also. I use Media Fire, It is free up to a certain limit. I back my league up to it about once a week.
