Should I feel guilty about trading with the AI?

Should I feel guilty about trading with the AI?

It seems too easy. I can "shop around" a total scrub, and get offers of prospects that my highly-rated scout loves. Nevermind the multiplayer trades you can craft.

I haven't played very many seasons. What I would like to know from someone who has is this: is the AI capable of conducting winning business?

Is it just scouting that makes these deals seem lopsided? Do the trade wins and busts balance out in the end? Or can you pretty much "rob" your way to a title?

If it is that easy, what measures do you take to increase the challenge? Forego the trade market?

Guilty? No.

Cautious? Yes.

If the AI was capable of conducting winning business against humans, we'd have bigger problems. You can "rob" your way to a title VERY easily, a little too easily. You can change the difficulty to "hard" and "favor prospects" (which is the preferred setting by most on the forums, btw), but even so, it's hard to get a "fair" deal against the AI.

It's gotten to the point where I've foregone the trade market almost completely, or intentionally added a player that I probably shouldn't to make the AI accept immediately.

Another thing I've done is drop my budget into the lower half of the league.

I'm playing on relaxed and i still suck at the game(my prospects never develop). Then again i rarely engage in much trading.

Join an online league and see how incompetent some human managers can be.

Thanks Afino. I didn't even know that AI tab was there. That's what I was hoping for. I'll try the hard or very hard setting, although from the sound of it, it might still be too easy.

I have to read up on how the online leagues work and the time required before I commit. If and when I join one, I'll be in it to win.

1-6 hours per week. Usually time spikes during the offseason. In season it can be as simple as a 5 minute check up on your rosters and upload when necessary.
I'm utterly biased. Only way to play for me.
Good luck, this game is a ball.

There are countless leagues and all have different expectations; as with any sim game across any sport. You could treat some like it is a glorified fantasy league or you could micromanage everything.

I just started a private league for some guys in a NCAA 10 league we have and one of the GM's was joking about how he is going to let his hired AI manager make all the calls under the guise of "I'm paying him, why should I do his job?"

If you're finding it too easy, then implement challenges and other restrictions on yourself to make it more difficult. I tend to like to do multi-team deals or to come up with other scenarios. It depends on the dynasty I'm doing. But you have to be creative and think of things.

Another tactic I like is to build up the other teams in the league. I'll identify a team as a nemesis for myself and work as their GM too. It's a nice way to learn the players around the league, but it's also a good check on your own potential dominance.

Would I be correct in assuming that a maximum trading difficulty would be the most realistic setting, based on what has been gathered in this thread?

I'm a complete rookie to baseball, so I really don't know what to do with most of the settings. ... but maximum realism is my goal.

I changed the trade difficulty to hard, and what a difference! No offers to my shopping around, and when architecting a trade, the PC does try to get at least one stud in any deal, even if I'm only asking for a middling prospect. Thanks again.
