Complete Rook- Any guides/FAQs
I was hoping in this sub-forum there would be a stickied guide. I downloaded the OOTP 10 demo and will be pre-ordering 11 today. It's not a big problem to just browse the menus and figure things out, however I was hoping there would be some guides or FAQ's around that would help with the learning curve.
Any links would be appreciated. Thanks, |

Over the years I've posted a couple of responses along these lines, let me see what I can come up with in a search.....
One Two I'm sure there are more and I know others have posted similarly as well. I once started coming up with a newbie FAQ but got distracted part way through and never finished it. If you have more questions, throw them out here and I'll try to answer them for you. Are you looking for a general 'How should I start running my team?' or specific 'What is the best way to evaluate whether a prospect is ready for the bigs?' or anything else? Ask away.

Good post...
The first link: that is almost my exact situation but now a year ahead. Just downloaded 10 demo and buying 11. However, I have a lot of experience with baseball and baseball games. From playing myself to having family in the pros, etc. The second link looks to be in-line with what I was looking for. I'm going to read through there and maybe do some forum searches on questions, and then just flat out play the game and see what I find. I'll post back on the forums if I have some sticky issues or can't find answers. Thanks |

BTW, Go Red Sox Nation.
I'm a native Houstonian and Astros fan, but my wife's family is all from the greater Boston Area. My father-in-law has adopted me into the nation, personalized jersey and all. Been to two games at Fenway now, including this past Fourth of July game against the Mariners. What a storied club and experience going to Fenway! |

Fenway is a great time. But why can't we get guys like Bagwell?

I just wanted to publicly regret my team giving him to you for virtually nothing.

Here's another great place to look for OOTPX answers and most will apply to 11 as well. OOTP Baseball Manual - OOTP 10
Just trying to help..Enjoy and welcome to the OOTP community. |

I'm extremely saddened that those 15 outstanding innings I threw in 1990 out of the Red Sox bullpen mean next to nothing to you. Regretfully Yours, Larry Andersen

I was 6 years old in 1990. I was 21 when Bagwell retired with (to me) Hall of Fame numbers.

Oh, and btw, I played a lot last night and this morning, and getting hooked! I actually started a new fictional league in OOTP 8, as I figured I could play that longer then the demo while I wait for 11 to come out. The game is really deep but I really like it so far. The time was flying by and I didn't even notice.

I didn't dig too deeply into the search results last time. Write up a few questions and I'll answer what I can later tonight or on Sunday.

Couple of questions
I'm doing my first, first year player draft, how do I scout these kids ahead of time? None of them are currently scouted so I can only do my quick scout options. I put some guys on my short list, but I can't find that short list now. What are some good ways to structure contracts? For example, if I want a bonus based on at bats on a star, so that if he's injured etc...what's a good at bat number to go with? |

I had a bunch of coaches leave after year one, as their contracts ran out. When is a good time to offer them, should I be offering extensions? Once the off season hits, is their a specific time to go about offering personnel contracts, or just do whatever whenever?

You're playing OOTP8, correct? I don't remember much about how it was set up but I'll do my best. You're also playing with some features I don't use...

Yes I am playing with OOTP 8 while I wait for 11... Those answers do help. I have been keeping in the back of my mind that some of these things I'm seeing must have been addressed in subsequent releases.

Generic tip off the top of my head...
You don't have to backload contracts like teams do in real life. OOTP players make no distinction between $10M > $8M > $7M contracts, $7M > $8M > $10M contracts or $8.33M > $8.33M > $8.33M contracts. I prefer frontloading contracts if I have the salary space. Makes it easier to keep veterans and young guys, in my opinion. The veteran makes less as he gets older while at the same time the youngster is beginning to earn more in arbitration. Not everyone plays this way, of course.
