Export of scouted data

Hi I'm new to the game. Sorry if this has already been answered or is a silly question. I did search the forums.

I am aware that you can export batting and pitching data for example. But I get the impression that (even for your own players) the stats shown within the game won't be 100% accurate. On the other hand, the exports are if I understand correctly.

What I'd like is to export what is on the screen. Exporting the actual numbers (and so looking inside the game) seems somehow like cheating, even offline to me.

Am I talking rubbish?

Thanks.

I have done this sort of thing in the past by generating the report to HTML & doing cut and paste to get it into a spreadsheet.

How can further analysis of numbers shown on the screen be cheating?

The stats within the game aren't 100% accurate, but the stats in exports are? Where are you getting that idea from? Maybe I'm totally missing something here, but what's on screen and what is in the database that you'd export should be the same. Unless what you're talking about some formulas like VORP which may or may not be similar to the formulas you'll see on various sites.

Anyway, if you just want to export what you see on screen you can follow this post. Various screens have various ways of getting at the data, but that should give you an idea how to do it.

Maybe I've misunderstood. What I wanted to do (as you say) is analysis of the numbers on screen.
But I thought that the exported numbers were the <actual> ratings, whereas the numbers shown on screen were your view of the ratings? Sounds like I may have been wrong though.

The problem is you said the word stats in your original post, but now you're saying ratings. They're two very different things.

If you're using scouts, then yes, the ratings you see are not the actual ratings. Oftentimes they'll be close and sometimes they'll be the true ratings exactly, but often they're not the actual ratings. If you play without scouts, however, then the ratings you see are the actual ratings.

Thanks everyone.

So if I do play with scouts, then what is shown about my team on screen and what is shown in the report may differ?
This is what I meant in my reference to "cheating", if scouting is set to have an error factor, and then this is negated in the reports, then I might as well have scouting turned off?

I don't wish to complicate the issue, but I think it's necessary to clarify a point that you very well might be confused by. Sometimes there is a discrepancy between what you'll see in the reports and what you see on another screen. Here's one thread about the issue (pay particular attention to lighthousekeeper's post about raw and derived ratings), but there are several other threads where many people have continuously expressed their confusion.

What should happen, however, is if you are using scouts then all screens and reports should report the same ratings as long as they're from the same time. Maybe one day we'll see this truly fixed and not just told it's fixed or it's a design decision which only leads to more confusion. For now, however, I recommend ignoring the raw ratings in favour of the derived, if you can remember which screens contain which that is. That, or play without scouts as I do.

If you do still want to analyze these ratings outside of the game then my link in my first post should still help you. Just pick the right reports to look at.

EDIT: Note that Markus said that it was fixed in the last patch. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that people are still seeing differences however.
