New Manager looking for Veteran Manager advice
I would love to pick the brains of some that seem to have mastered this game. I am struggling on what to do right? Most leagues I get in are probably because the old managers have wrecked them beyond repairing. If anyone has advice or time to chat let me know you can email me at wwitunsky@gmail.com if that makes it easier for you.

As I always say, post up a question here. Myself or someone will usually be along to read it and answer. Check some of the more recent threads with similar titles, there will be advice there as well.

I have read some of your past posts and it is quite helpful. I just seem to not be able to get this team off the ground. they have good pitching but here is an example. The league is 1-10 on stats and here a pitcher for example.
Player Report for #63 Justin Masterson :He is barely going 4 innings and getting pounded. have a 6.+ Era. I dont understand why this is on paper he should be awesome? I read your post on batting order as well. Should i go by OBP or AVG and the confusing thing is if their avg stinks how can they have a high OBS? Isnt that kind of a contradiction? I mean if their avg stinks they are not hitting right? Any insight as to what I may or may not be doing would be helpful. I understand the game of baseball but running it is another. ![]() Do you mean OPS, or OBP? I'm guessing it's OPS, which is a combination of OBP and SLG. It's quite easy for a guy to have a low AVE and a high OPS -- all he has to do is walk a lot and get a lot of extra base hits as a proportion of his total hits. Each stat communicates something, and no one stat communicates everything. You have to decide what to consider for each decision you have to make. For example, when making a decision about a leadoff batter, you might give more weight to his ability to get on base (OBP) and scores runs (speed, SB ability, etc). For someone in the number 4 slot in the lineup, you might give more weight to power hitting (SLG and/or OPS). Everyone has their own ideas about those things, but it also depends on what kind of players you have. |

I ment On Base Percentage sorry about that. Thank you for the info. Is there a reason why some players on papers should be really good and are almost as good as a 1 star player most of their career?

There are quite a few.
1) Scouting has their projected talent incorrect. Probably the biggest. 2) They are the anomoly, in a game this size players will under perform. 3) Lazy Read: Low work ethic 4) Dumb as a bag of rocks Read: Low inteligence 5) Sports in general are filled with tons of talent/ no execution players. I do not know, but I would bet, this is in the coding to some degree. Even if it is not directly adressed. |

Some guys just don't live up to their ratings, others play over their heads. Simply variance. Looking at Masterson his walks and HR rates are up and his Ks are down. Over seven starts, it could just be a stretch of bad luck.
As for a lineup, I'll take OBP over AVG every day. The most important thing in baseball is to get on base after all.
